Residential Services - Day Respite Program

Caring for a loved one who is aged and frail can be physically and emotionally demanding.

Southern Cross Care (Vic)'s day respite program is offered at our fully accredited residential facilities listed below and is ideal for families and friends who need a well-earned break from their daily care-giving responsibilities.

Our day respite program is flexible, reliable and affordable and can be used on a planned or emergency basis to help improve the quality of life for both the carer and the person being cared for.

We have over 35 years experience in providing quality aged and community-based services, so carers can rest easy, secure in the knowledge that their loved one is being well looked after.

Our direct care personnel are highly skilled, competent and experienced in specific areas of need including:

• Dementia and related illnesses
  
• Challenging behaviours
  
• Complex care
  
• Disability & frailty

• Supervision depending on individual care needs
  
• Assistance with daily living activities (such as dressing, toileting, bathing and eating)
  
• Social and recreational activities
  
• Nutritious home-style meals, as well as morning & afternoon tea

• Provide services that respond to the individual needs of both the carer and the person being cared for
• Link respite services with existing residential care services in order to offer high quality programs and opportunities for social interaction
• Provide enjoyable and appropriate activities for the person being cared for and support their participation
• Enhance and maintain daily living skills through the provision of structured activity programs that promote healthy, positive ageing
• Provide carers and those who are being cared for the opportunity to meet and interact with people facing similar challenges

Who can use the service?

Our day respite services are available to people over the age of 60 and are subject to assessment by a Southern Cross Care (Vic) Manager or our nominated representative. Please contact our residential facility closest to you for further details.

How much does it cost?

The program operates on a fee-for-service basis. Costs can vary slightly depending on the level of care required.

When is this service offered?

Day respite services are offered 9am - 5pm or part thereof, on weekdays. Out of hours care can be discussed and rates negotiated.
