What happens if my care needs become greater?

Southern Cross Care (Vic) has adopted an ageing-in-place approach to care. Where possible, residents have the choice to remain living in our low-care facility, which has become a familiar and appropriate environment to them, even as their needs increase.

Community Support Groups

Community Support Groups comprise dedicated volunteers who are involved in fundraising activities and improving the facility to which they are affiliated. Residents' family and friends are welcome to join the group and become actively involved for the benefit of their loved one and other residents.

A range of activities:

Activities and outings are regularly organised, in consultation with residents, to maintain a feeling of belonging and involvement. All of our facilities have a village bus (most with wheelchair access) and a scheduled activities program with an emphasis on healthy, positive living. Residents often enjoy:

  • Newspaper discussion
  • Beauty therapy & manicures
  • Cooking
  • Gentle exercise
  • Games (Incl. bingo, board games, indoor bowls etc)
  • Music therapy (Incl. musical instruments, listening and singing)
  • Regular outings
  • Discussion groups
  • Fashion parades
  • Concerts
  • Crafts and woodwork
  • Special days such as Mother's Day, Father's Day and birthdays
  • SONAS (a multi-sensory program which aims to activate the potential for communication, particularly for those living with dementia)

We invite residents to participate in the design and planning of activities and outings and always welcome family and friends to join in.

Every effort is made to ensure that the cultural and spiritual needs of residents are met, regardless of denomination.

  • dementia-friendly accommodation
  • intimate dining rooms and spacious community areas
  • qualified and skilled personnel on duty 24 hours a day

The innovative facility is designed around three houses, each staffed by a team of dedicated personnel. Dining areas in each house ensure a more intimate dining experience for residents, while lounge and common rooms will facilitate community and recreational activities and maximise lifestyle options.

The facility is easy to access and is conveniently located between Dandenong and Cranbourne shopping areas and local amenities.

Southern Cross Care Lynbrook also accommodates SCC (Vic)’s Southern Region Community Services office to better provide for the needs of older people in the southern region who wish to continue living independently in their own homes.
