Southern Cross Care (Vic) is proud to sponsor an important new accredited training program in pastoral care and ageing with the following two options: Certificate IV in Pastoral Care (CHC41112) and Diploma of Ageing and Pastoral Care (91561NSW) Both are nationally recognised qualifications suitable for people interested in pastoral care and ageing and will be conducted in Melbourne. The courses commence in June 2013. The courses provide the opportunity for you to hone your interpersonal skills or develop new ones, including leading a pastoral care program/team. The courses are open to people from any faith background and will appeal to anyone currently working or volunteering in a parish or faith based community or residential aged care services or related areas. Southern Cross Care (Vic) held its 10th Annual SCC (Vic)/Aitken Partners Corporate Charity Golf Day recently at the magnificent Yarra Yarra Golf Club and once again delivered outstanding results. Twenty four teams competed for the Perpetual Trophy and 120 people attended the dinner overlooking the beautiful greens of Yarra Yarra. Guests were treated to an inspiring address from Bali Bombing hero and AFL great, Jason McCartney, who left most amazed at his determination and courage to return, not just to football, but to life, family and community. SCC (Vic) welcomes the Federal Government call for a Royal Commission into institutional responses to instances and allegations of child sexual abuse in Australia. With the rest of the community, we feel outraged not only with the sexual abuse of children but also with allegations of cover-up. SCC (Vic) as a Catholic organisation understands this is a distressing time for those who work in, or have their loved ones in the care of Catholic organisations, regardless of whether or not they are members of the Catholic faith. SCC (Vic) operates as a Government-funded aged care organisation and no organisational funds can, or would be used to pay compensation that should rightly be paid by another organisation to any victims of abuse. While the actions of some cast a shameful shadow across many community groups and organisations, including the Catholic Church, the positive aspects of work by Catholic organisations must not be overlooked. read more...
