SOUTHERN CROSS CARE (VIC) CARING FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD

Research

At SCC (Vic) we are committed to commissioning and contributing to research that supports our focus on positive ageing and to ensure that we use research findings to continually improve the quality of the services and support we provide.

Our ongoing commitment to research includes:

  • The employment of a full time Dementia Care Consultant who focuses on developing and implementing strategies for people living with dementia, their families and carers
  • Conducting research on the benefits and calming effects of music on residents, clients living with dementia, using portable MP3 players.  This research project has received considerable positive media coverage
  • Contributing to research programs conducted by external organisations including universities, Alzheimer’s Australia and Carers Victoria, on individual projects
  • Participating in masters student research
  • Informing clients and residents about how they can contribute to current and future research
  • Contributing to the aged care sector knowledge through our involvement with Aged and Community Care Victoria (ACCV)
  • Partnering with other organisations such as the National Ageing Researach Institute (NARI) to support research initiatives
  • The hosting of a series of lectures by a world renowned dementia expert, Professor Edmund Chiu (sponsored by Pfizer Pharmaceuticals)
All research is subject to an ethics review process that ensures the highest possible standards to protect privacy and to ensure the best interests of our clients and residents is always paramount.
