SOUTHERN CROSS CARE (VIC) CARING FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD
Southern Cross Care (Vic) is committed to providing quality palliative care at each of its Residential Aged Care homes. Caring for and supporting very frail and elderly people during their final phase of life is a special type of care.
Our palliative care services offer co-ordinated medical, nursing and allied health services to people who are dying. Physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual and pastoral care support are also available for the person being cared for, as well as their family and friends.
In aiming to achieve the best possible quality of life for residents and their families, the palliative care provided at each of our Residential Aged Care homes:
- affirms life and treats dying as a normal process
- helps people live as actively as possible until death
- is responsive to the individual needs of the residents
- respects the cultural, ethnic and religious diversity of the residents
Importantly, grief and bereavement support is also provided to the residents’ families before and after the death of their loved one.
While all of our Residential Aged Care homes provide palliative care services, as required by the residents, Macleod Village and Ave Maria Village in Shepparton offer specialised palliative care services.
Macleod Village has a purpose built palliative care suite that provides comprehensive services and support for residents and their families.
Ave Maria Village offers palliative care for respite residents, supported through the local Palliative Care Service.
