At Southern Cross Care (Vic), we recognise that most older people prefer to live independently at home for as long as they can.
However, where more specialised care is needed, a move to a residential aged care home can provide the support and sense of comfort needed. SCC (Vic) provides 'ageing in place' services, which allows people to remain living at the same home, even if their care needs increase (from low care to high care, for example).
Our eight (8) residential homes, located throughout metropolitan Melbourne and one in regional Victoria, offer a wide range of services and accommodation options and provide around-the-clock nursing care. This includes the provision of low and high care, short and long-term respite care, care for those living with dementia and care for those who have palliative needs.
At each of our residential homes, staff, residents, family members and volunteers create their own community or environment of support, while coordinating the various levels of care required. Services include 24-hour care delivered by qualified and experienced personnel, lifestyle programs to encourage wellbeing, nutritious freshly cooked meals tailored to individual dietary and cultural needs and flexible respite services.
Our buildings are similar to other aged care homes with single rooms with ensuites (some also have double rooms available for couples), spacious living areas (inside and out) together with all the other features expected of an aged care home. Where we believe we are different is in the attitude, warm approach and the relationships our staff develop to ensure that they consider the individual requirements of each resident in supporting their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
SCC (Vic) also offers a specialist in-house Dementia Consultant to provide support to staff, residents and family members.
