SOUTHERN CROSS CARE (VIC) CARING FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD
It is difficult to overstate the role that volunteers play at Southern Cross Care (Vic). The time they give, and the friendship they provide, really does improve the quality of life for all residents and clients.
Every year, hundreds of people give their own time to help residents and clients with special programs and activities.
These can be as diverse as creating a herb and vegetable garden for residents at our Springvale Residential Home, conducting tai chi classes at John H Kerr Residential Home in Newport, to playing tombolone (Italian bingo) at Casa Elda Vaccari in Fitzroy North.
More recently, SCC (Vic) volunteers have begun visiting Community Care clients living independently in their own homes, taking them shopping or to activity groups, helping them with a hobby, teaching computer skills and providing them with very welcomed company.
Volunteers are supported with education and information workshops on a wide range of subjects, including dementia, depression and fire/safety procedures.
